Planned Program for 2020 (Woolwich Wild - Elmira, St. Jacobs, Breslau Girls Hockey)

PrintPlanned Program for 2020

Planned program for September 2020

This is a summary of what we will be offering as part of the Training Group Session #1 starting in late September.  Please realize this is subject to change based on direction from the Ontario government, the Township of Woolwich, the Ontario Women’s Hockey Association (OWHA) and our local Public Health Unit.

This plan is based on the OWHA's Return to Hockey Stage 3 Modified Programming for September 1st in conjunction with restrictions required by the Township of Woolwich:

  • Girls will be placed into training groups based on their age group (ie. U9, U11, etc.). The WGMHA will form tiered training groups from the 2020-21 WGMHA registered players at U9, U11, U13, U15 and U18.  U7 training groups will not be tiered. As per the OWHA, players will be assigned, by the WGMHA, to a training group and the Association will determine the best approach for tiered groups based on numbers and caliber of participants
  • Maximum of 20 participants on the ice, plus coaches.
  • Physical distancing is required:
    • Players must remain one stick length apart
    • Accidental/incidental contact may occur
  • Registration is open to all Woolwich players from 2019/20.
  • New players must live in the Township of Woolwich, unless approved by the OWHA.
  • We will start with a minimum two-week development phase, with the hope of modified 3 on 3 or 4 on 4 game play with no physical contact hockey at some point after that.
  • All U9 - U18 training groups will be on the ice two times per week (with the exception of holidays).
  • U7 training groups will be on the ice once per week.
  • Parents will be required to complete a Health Questionnaire prior to each ice time.
  • Parents must bring their player to the arena fully dressed.  Players that can tie their own skates can put them on in the arena.  Players that need help with skates must wear their skates with skate guards when they enter the arena.
  • Parents will not be permitted to enter the arena.
  • We will provide more details on the process in mid-September, including a walk-thru of the process with all training groups the week before the program starts.
  • To begin with, training groups will run on a rolling 4 week basis to allow us to respond to any changes caused by COVID-19.
  • Players must re-register for subsequent sessions.
  • Payments will be due prior to each 4 week period.
  • The cost for Training Group Session #1 is $150 for U9 - U18 and $60 for U7.  The fee for your first session includes a one-time $53 ($40 for U7) Hockey Canada/OWHA fee to cover insurance for the season.
  • Deadline to register for the first session is September 11, 2020.  Registration for session #1 is not yet open, but will be soon.
  • Registrations after this date will start in the following Training Group Session.

Planned online Town Hall with parents:         Week of September 14th

Planned walk-thru with players/teams:        Week of September 21st

Planned start date:                                          Week of September 28th

Levels offered:                 U7, U9, U11, U13, U15 and U18

U7/Initiation - At this time, coaches are not permitted within 2m of the players and thus are unable to support and/or pick-up players on the ice.  Therefore, all U7 players must be able to skate in order to join the program.  It is our hope, this requirement can be removed in the future.

NOTE:   All of this is subject to change at any time.  Policies and processes are dependent on the COVID-19 situation and policies set by the Ontario government, the Township of Woolwich, the Ontario Women’s Hockey Association and our local Public Health Unit.  The WGMHA reserves the right to limit registration in any division, or to not offer a division at any time.
