Hey my name is Britt Sparkes and I will be the Head Coach for the U18B Woolwich Wild Team for this upcoming season.
This will be my 1st season coaching with the Wild Association however I have been a Head Coach with the Waterloo Ravens for the past 6 seasons. Coaching has become one of my passions. I love being a non-parent Coach and inspiring the next generation of female athletes. As a Coach I strive to ensure all my players know there’s more to hockey after they finish their minor hockey career and I hope that one day some of the players I have coached will follow in my footsteps and think about coaching a team of their own. As a Coach my main goal is to develop a players skills while also developing their character. I enjoy watching how hard work and dedication throughout the season allows players to improve individually and as a team. Becoming a Non-Parent coach at 22 was one of my best decisions in life so far and it has been such a rewarding experience. I am looking forward to a fresh start with Woolwich and can’t wait to see what’s to come with this team.
Before coaching I grew up playing hockey in Waterloo until U22 and then later joined the Ravens Senior team for a season. At 14 I decided to join the Waterloo Referees Association and have reffed every year since. While playing and reffing have been a big part of my hockey life, my focus more recently has been on coaching. During my time as a coach, I have coached U13-U18 (HL & DS) teams as well as WCSSAA hockey with WCI. I think having seen the game from all different angles has really helped me develop as a Coach.
When it comes to my personal life, I recently moved to St. Jacobs and I am excited to become part of the Woolwich community. I attended Wilfrid Laurier University where I completed my undergrad in Kinesiology and Biology and then later completed my Recreational Therapy Program at Canadore. I am now working with the Waterloo Regional Police as a 9-1-1 Operator. In my spare time I enjoy playing Slopitch as my summer sport and I enjoy watching hockey & I am a proud Leafs fan (I clearly enjoy the heartbreak each season). I also enjoy going out to watch the Toronto Sceptres and supporting the Women’s National team. Sometimes you can catch me relaxing at the cottage with friends, at a concert, visiting farm animals or exploring somewhere, but I am always keeping myself busy with work (& hockey during while in season) and will always be counting down the days until the next game day. Bring on the 2025-2026 season!
