Wild Senior Women's (Woolwich Wild)

PrintWild Senior Women's

Senior Women’s rep team

Starting in 2016, we began a Senior Women’s rep team, for ages 18 and older, that is part of the Southwestern Ontario Women’s Hockey League (SOWHL).

How many games can I expect to play?

The regular season will be 18 games played from October to early February.  Starting in February, the team will play in league playoff games and OWHA Provincial playdown games.  The OWHA Provincials tournament is held in early April.

Home games will typically be on Sundays at 3:30pm.  Away games are typically on weekends, but there could be an occasional weeknight game.

How much practice time will I have?

There will be approximately three practices at the start of the season along with two or three exhibition games.  Like most other Senior teams in the SOWHL, the Woolwich Senior Women’s rep team will not have regular practices.

What about tournaments?

Most Woolwich rep teams enter two or three tournaments during the year – this is decided upon by the team as a whole.

How far will I have to drive?
The Woolwich Senior Women’s rep team will compete in the SOWHL.  Each year, the SOWHL divisions (loops) are put together once the league knows how many teams are registered in each category (A, BB, B and C).  The loop that Woolwich would compete in will vary from year to year depending upon the number of registered teams and category selected.  The SOWHL is made up of teams west of Waterloo Region, so travel could involve driving as far as Sarnia to the west, Port Stanley to the south and Lucknow to the north.  There are a number of teams from centres like Wilmot, Milverton, Stratford, Woodstock and Lucknow in the SOWHL.

Is there an extra cost?
The Senior Woman’s team will not be required to pay an additional Association rep fee.  However, there are some additional costs.

There is a $TBD fee per player fee for rep team tryouts to help cover the cost of the ice.

Then, the team will have a team budget used to track additional costs for the team, such as tournament fees, extra practice ice and timekeeper fees.  All players are expected to contribute their share of the total approved budget amount.

How competitive is it?

The SOWHL is comprised of approximately 27 teams grouped into 4 categories (A, BB, B and C).  Most teams compete in the B and C categories.  Woolwich rep teams typically are registered in the BB, B and C categories.  Our emphasis is on fair ice time for all players and having fun, as well as playing at a higher skill level than Local League.

Any special equipment requirements?

All Woolwich rep players are expected to have red pants and helmets (goalie masks excluded), and Woolwich Wild socks so that the players will all match.  We strongly encourage players to proudly represent the Association through the wearing of Wild clothing off-ice to games and tournaments.

The Senior Women’s Rep team tryouts are held starting in September.

There is a $TBD tryout fee to help cover the cost of the ice.  Please check our website for rep tryout dates and times.  You will be required to register and pay for tryouts before you can attend.  Players coming from another centre that wish to tryout in Woolwich will be required to request a Permission to Tryout from their home Association.
