Welcome to the Woolwich Girls Minor Hockey Association (WGMHA) also known as Woolwich Wild. We are located in South-Western Ontario and serve Woolwich Township which is located just northeast of the cities of Kitchener and Waterloo and centered in the communities of St. Jacobs and Elmira. This site contains information about our association, teams and players, in addition to links to other helpful women's hockey sites.
The Woolwich Girls Minor Hockey Association was founded in 2001. In its first four seasons, the association entered teams in the Kitchener Girls Local League (KGLL). In 2005, Woolwich also began entering teams in the Southwestern Girls Hockey League (SWGHL) which was a more competitive (representative) level of play. SWGHL then amalgamated with other leagues in Ontario and was called the Lower Lakes Female Hockey League (LLFHL). In 2021, the OWHA changed the rep league for our area to be the Ontario Women's Hockey League, Southern division (OWHL - Southern).
Starting in 2016, we began a Senior Women’s rep team, for ages 19 and older, that is part of the Southwestern Ontario Women’s Hockey League (SOWHL)
Currently, we offer four different levels of play: Wild U7 (Rookie) Program, Wild Local League, Wild Rep Hockey and Wild Senior Women's.
The purpose of the WGMHA is to:
- Foster and promote hockey for girls residing in the Township of Woolwich.
- Maintain and/or increase the interest in girls hockey in the Township of Woolwich.
- Operate female hockey teams from Development to Representative levels within the resources and limitations of the Association.
