Midget BB Bring home Gold
The Woolwich Wild Midget BB team spent last weekend at the Carriage Hill Resort on Horseshoe Valley Road last weekend.  Normally, such a resort pampers vacationers trying to get an early, snowy, start to the ski season. But these girls did not have diamonds on their minds for this trip.  It was gold they were after in the Barrie Sharkfest Tournament.

First up on their path for gold were Flamborough Falcons. The Wild came out of the gates stronger than a snow storm and despite strong goaltending from the Falcons netminder, we came out on top with a one goal win.  But still a win for us and a good way to start the weekend off.  However, the true test would be getting through an unfavourable schedule that would see are girls head to the arena for a late 10pm game against Bluewater Hawks, followed by an early 10am game against a talented Barrie home team.  But poultry was on our menu Friday with a solid 2-0 win against the Hawks to go along with our earlier Falcons win. It turns out that a late game, early game schedule may have been a blessing in disguise for these teenagers, limiting the late night shenanigans and forcing them to bed early.  The girls came out on a mission and came off the ice with a 5-0 win against the Barrie Sharks. For the last game of round robin, a tired Wild team faced the Orangeville Tigers in a hard, fought battle that would end the game scoreless after 3. With no losses in round robin and zero goals against, hopes for the finals was on everyone’s mind. But they needed to get past the 5th ranked team in Ontario, the Haldimand Rivercats in the semis. But our confidence was high and going in the ladies were ready to go out and play their game. At the end of 3 periods the score was tied at 2 and an overtime was needed to see who would move on. With just over a minute into OT the puck found the back of the net and the ladies were off to the finals!  Just one win away from their golden weekend.

A late afternoon game on Sunday set the stage for the gold medal game.  The girls were tired but all excuses were checked at the door.  They would need to dig deep and find a way to get it done.  The challenger would not be an easy game and after 3 periods of play and a late power play goal by the South Huron Sabers, the score was all tied up.  You guessed it…BACK TO OVERTIME WE GO!!!

But midway through the extra time, the Wild found the twine for the second time in the same amount of games.  GOLD WAS COMING HOME TO ELMIRA.

Congratulations to the Midget BB Girls.
